"In Brooklyn we don´t go by numbers"

What´s up with all the bands nowadays that decided to come from Brooklyn? It is getting ridiculous. All of the sudden Brooklyn became the Hollywood of alt music.
The only person I have heard that was original from B’klyn was WW father. According to him his father worked there in a telephone company or something like that. WW´s daughters can say Grappa was from B’klyn. That is reasonable.
If saying you’re from B’klyn sets a status that should be call a music genre and not a place we all decided to come from. We have disco, jazz, soul, blues, rock, pop, punk, classical music … and now we have Brooklyn.

Fuck yes, it's getting ridiculous. Especially when you go to Amalia Rodrigue's myspace page and it says she was from Brooklyn. Even worse, Tuna da FEUP, also from Brooklyn.

But I don't think there's a sound from Brooklyn. You may call it alternative, but that label is just too general. For example, when you say Brooklyn the first thing that comes to my mind is MGMT, but that's just random. Actually, if you go to their myspace page it says they are from upstate. Way cooler. Maybe there's a lot of people who don't want to reveal their real backgrounds because they are from Alabama, Dallas or Mirandela. Too bad they don't know Mirandela is so next year!
