The day I met Morrissey

The day I met Morrissey is a book by Dickie Felton that I am reading at the moment. His devotion to music and to all that comes along with it inspired me to write this blog. So I want to make sure one of my early posts talks about Morrissey and how I met him.

I was about 14 when I stole one of many cd from my sister collection. It was a cd recorded by a cousin of mine. He was a dj and surprisingly he was not playing house music like it was expected at the time. The cd was a compilation of music from the 70s generation. All the sounds were great but it was one that was unique. It was “Big mouth strikes again”, and that was how I met The Smith & Morrissey. After that it was no turning back.

On the festival of Paredes de Coura, in 2k6, was when I first saw Morrissey. He had just released “Ringleader of the Tormentors” and it was mandatory for me to just go without over thinking it although I was skeptical. I knew Morrissey was not a festival type of guy and I end up confirming that when he left the stage in the middle of the song “Panic”. Just when the crowd was hysterical he could not make it until the end. He said “the way out is always the way in” and left. It took me a while to forgive him but I couldn´t blame him, the festival crowd is always the least interesting public. Many where there to see rage against the machine and I could feel it. Everyone could. And if "only fools perform" I believe you did what it had to be done. Anyway Moz ... ultimaly you could have been barking for 2 hours and it would be pleasant anyway.
